If you have a settlement this week in Hurricane affected areas please read this.

If you have a settlement this week  in Hurricane affected areas here is some advice :

1. If the property is vacant go and check to make sure there is power .

2.Inspect the basement for water problems and sump pump failure

3. Please note that mortgage companies are requiring a reinspect to make sure there is no damage due to the hurricane.

4.Please prepare addendums and have them signed by all parties incase the settlement is postponed.5

5. Check your messages often. Return phone calls  from mortgage companies, buyers and sellers and co-op agents.and make the home available for the mortgage company to come out and check.

When you read about events please check the year for the event as some people find information a year later and think it is for that year. . The posts remain online even after the event.

Ritu, In this case it is a good idea to check it out in advance so there is time to resolve the issues.

Ritu, great stuff. I just learned yesterday that all homes along the east coast require the appraiser to go back to reinspect. I understand this, but wow, imagine what that is going to do to the system over the next few weeks.

This is a very important post since the areas that have problems do not normally have to deal with these issues!

Gita,

What a wonderful post filled with important information. There's lots to do to prepare in advance and lots to do after the storm.

You did a great job putting a good and helpful list. Thanks Gita.
