Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery Counties Real Estate. Tips for home buyers, home sellers by Gita Bantwal,Realtor at Re/Max Centre Realtors.: Mistakes I first made on Active Rain.

Mistakes I first made on Active Rain.

I joined Active Rain in 2007.

When I first joined I posted a couple of listings and then posted infrequently. I used to read a few posts and comment on them.

If someone commented on my post I did not acknowledge it and neither did I reciprocate. I only commented on posts that I found interesting. After a few months I learned that I have to do both and it was fun to see comments on my posts regularly because there were many who responded to my posts when I commented on their posts.I did not care about points .I did not know that a comment ahd to have certain number of words so as to receive 25 points. I wondered why some comments did not qualify for points.I wrote a short post once and there were no points. later I saw a post by someone mentioning that a post has to have 50 words inorder to receive points.

I quickly learned about points and it was exciting to try to reach the 100,000 point mark.

If someone has taken the time to comment on my post I should acknowledge the comment as well as comment on one of their posts.

I now have a nice group of friends on Active Rain and I comment on their listings and market reports and posts with just a photo eg speechless Sundays. I also read the featured posts but may not comment if I do not have time. I choose to reciprocate comments first.

If I have to refer someone to an agent in other parts of the country I know agents in most major markets. I do not have to search the CRS directory or Re/Max directory for agents.

Active Rain members are here for different reasons . Some are here for google so that clients will find them, these poeople may not comment on otehr posts and just post about their listings and themselves.  Some are here to learn from posts and webinars , these will just read posts and not comment.

Some are here to network with other agents as well as to be found by consumers.

Newbies have the advantage that we did not have as there are tutorials and webinars to learn from.

I have leared a lot on AR .

Gita, I joined Active Rain fairly early, but it did take some years to become a regular.  I have also learned a lot here, and still have a lot more to learn.

Hi Gita,

Active Rain is a real learning curve for anyone who joins. Looking back I get a chuckle at the way I had posted in the past.

I try and return comments as much as possible. But when we get a featured post an over a hundred comments. There is not enough time in the day to return all the comments.

That would be three hundred comments. That's just way too many to have to comment on.

Have a great day and keep up the great work you do for the Rain and for the Bucks County home buyers.

Best, Clint McKie

So nice to read about your beginnings on A/R. I know Gita that if I ever have a referral for your area, I would definitely recommend you!

Good morning Gita,

It takes awhile to grasp the full value of Active Rain and it sounds like you have come full circle. Thanks for telling us about your experience with Active Rain! We know who to call if we have someone coming your way!

Gita, good post. I will celebrate my 1 year anniversary on AR this week. I look back at where I started to where I am now. I still have a long way to go, but like many have said it takes awhile to learn about AR.

Gita, I think we all made that mistake at the beginning.

Gita: I echo your comments that it takes awhile to figure ActiveRain out in terms of what we want from the community, how it can help us, and how we can support others.

Hi Gita, it seems like you caught onto what works for you. Slow and steady makes those points mount up but interacting and making friends is the best part. There is so much to learn by reading others posts.

Good morning, Gita -- it's interesting to read the journeys different AR members take as we each discover what will work best for us.  This community offers so much whether it is on a personal level for some, professional for others or a combination of the two.
