March 4 is Hug a GI Day

I do not know who started this or when they first named March 4 , as '  Hug a GI   Day ' . I just read it in the carrier Pigeon , a monthly free magazine that I receive.

You can  thank a GI today.

Check out It is interesting to see that they have something for each day of the month of March . Subscribe to my blog or follow me if you wish to be reminded of all the interesting holidays.

When you read about events please check the year for the event as some people find information a year later and think it is for that year. . The posts remain online even after the event.

I don't know if I'll run across a GI today, Gita... but if I do, I'll certainly be sure to give them a hug and a thank you.

Gita, if I see a GI today I will definitely give them a hug. I always try to say thank you if I pass one and they're so appreciative, they truly deserve all the thanks in the world.

HI Gita Bantwal - The first person I thought about hugging was my son who is a Marine veteran.  He does not live close to me, so hugs are very precious.

I don't come across many GI's but when I do I always thank them for their service. I'll throw in a hug next time.

I wish I would not have missed this yesterday, I would have liked to have warned my Active Duty daughter... I hope she didn't shoot anyone thinking they were attacking her .
