Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery Counties Real Estate. Tips for home buyers, home sellers by Gita Bantwal,Realtor at Re/Max Centre Realtors.: The most appreciated gift this holiday season is Green.

The most appreciated gift this holiday season is Green.

This is one year when more people just need some extra cash rather than any thing in particular. If you prefer to give gift cards please make sure that there is a store close by where they can use it.

My son received a gift card for a store out of State a few years ago for his graduation and it was a year before he had a chance to use it.

If you receive a gift card use it as soon as possible as you never know when a store will go out of business in this economy.

I just found out the other day that a store that I love to shop at is going out of business.

Many of my close friends said they are giving their grown children cash as that is what they prefer . Ofcourse everyone is buying things for the grandchildren and their young kids '

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

When you read about events please check the year for the event as some people find information a year later and think it is for that year. . The posts remain online even after the event.

Yeah there are a lot of stores that are close to going out of business...I would recommend a VISA cash gift card if you are buying gift cards!

The other thing you need to remember is whether or not the card expires. It is no fun when that happens.

My daughter is buying her children Christmas gift with the gift cards she has received for her birthday a few weeks ago.  Pretty thrifty, I thought.

Great pointers!!!  I know that normally I give my manicurist and pedicurist gifts for Christmas but this year I gave them cash instead.  Their boss has cut back on their hours and I felt that the cash would be a more welcomed gift!

Hi Gita

Making this a green Christmas season is a great idea. Green is good.

Good luck and success

Bill, Thanks for the tip.

As long as they spend it on something worthwhile - giving cash would scare me, personally.

Jeff, We hope they will spend it wisely. I know if you give cash to a parent, they may  be able to buy a gift for their kids.

I have also heard some have a declining balance the longer you wait to use them the less they are worth

A Visa or American Express gift card makes a lot of sense as so many stores are closing these days.
